For Recommenders

Submit a letter of recommendation

Applicants to the Legislative Internship Program must provide two letters of recommendation, one from a faculty member and one from a personal or professional reference. For information about the qualifications and duties of the internship, please visit our home page

In your letter, please address to the best of your knowledge the applicant's character, writing and research abilities, interpersonal skills, professionalism, and work ethic. These qualities are key to evaluating how successful a student will be in the fast-paced legislative environment. We appreciate your complete and candid assessments.

Please use our secure online form to upload your letter of recommendation and complete a brief assessment of the applicant. Contact the coordinators at civic.ed@leg.wa.gov with questions or if you experience technical difficulties.

Thank you for your recommendation!

‚ÄčThe internship program was an invaluable experience that allowed me to explore the field of public policy, gave me great insight into the policy making process, and helped me develop skills -- including communication skills, presentation skills, and professionalism -- that I continue to draw upon in my work.

-Adelina Garcia, 2001 Intern

It was a great learning experience for me in terms of helping to put the classroom education into a working real world context. The relationships and connections made helped clarify the direction I wanted my career to go in.

-Julie Gonzalez, 2005 Intern
