Advisory Opinion 96-08

The issue was whether a legislator could accept an international trip paid for with non-legislative funds.​

​The Board concluded that bona fide trade missions are analyzed differently than most other travel and after discussing gifts and the reasonable expectation statute and several prior opinions, concluded the proposed trip would not violate the Act.  RCW 42.52.010(9)(d) and 42.52.140.
