Internship Program
The Office of the State Actuary is proud to provide internship opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about our work. Our internship program provides hands-on experience of what it’s like to support key issues (like pensions and college investment plans) that impact millions of Washingtonians. Interns will work both independently and collaboratively with team members on a variety of projects to solve problems and communicate results.
Our standard internship is a full-time, eight-week position, typically beginning in June. The application process for this position is as follows.
- March 15th to May 10th – Application submission window
- May – Interviews are conducted
- Late May to Early June – Candidate(s) are selected

Actuarial Intern - Exempt Position
The Office of the State Actuary (OSA) offers an internship opportunity each summer for individuals seeking to gain experience and knowledge in the Actuarial field. The summer internship is a temporary full-time, nonpartisan, at-will position that is exempt from the state civil service system. The position is open to remote work arrangements.
The intern may assist with the preparation of actuarial valuations or pricing of proposals for various Washington State retirement plans or other programs OSA supports, respond to legislative and constituent inquiries and requests, prepare cash flow and contribution rate projections, and assist with economic and demographic experience studies.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate will be pursuing a degree, or recently graduated, from an accredited college or university in a field such as actuarial science, mathematics, or finance; will be proficient at using Excel spreadsheets; familiar with word processing programs; will have effective interpersonal and written communication skills; be effective working independently as well as in a team environment; and legally authorized to work in the United States.
COMPENSATION
The salary for the position is $3,500 per month, if residing in or relocating to Washington State. We encourage applications from candidates regardless of location although we are not able to offer compensation to interns who wish to work remotely outside of Washington State at this time due to tax and regulatory requirements.
