Issue/Question

May a legislator accept from a lobbyist a gift of a newspaper subscription valued in excess of $50?

Summary

Newspapers generally fall within an exception to the dollar limit on gifts.  Whether a subscription violates the "reasonable expectation" standard in RCW 42.52.140 depends on a number of factors discussed in the opinion.  RCW 42.52.150.
