Question/Complaint

Did the Senator's actions in mailing some of the attorneys in his firm, advising them of his impending legislative leave of absence, and inviting the attorneys and/or their clients to contact him for legislation status reports and/or an introduction to certain legislators, constitute a violation of the Ethics Act?

Summary

Yes.  The memorandum created an implication that special privileges were being offered in violation of RCW 42.52.070, and that an indirect financial gain in this law firm setting was realized by the Senator through the use of the letter by the firm to attract clients.  RCW 42.52.020.
