Rules to participate in or observe House committees.

Hearing room rules

The public is welcome in House committee rooms to watch their lawmakers in action and participate in the development of legislation. The legislative rules adopted by the House require basic order and decorum, a long-standing approach consistent with the important work being performed here.

 

PROHIBITED from the committee hearing rooms are the following:

• Signs or other props that could be construed as an effort to promote demonstrations

• Audible or visual signals from the audience to the dais, including whistling, calling, chanting, or waving

• Animals, other than service animals

• Applause and/or demonstrations

• Umbrellas, strollers or similar items that could block movement or take up seating space

• Openly carried weapons such as firearms and blades

• Food and beverages, other than water

• Large cases, backpacks and packages

• Unattended children

• Any other object or behavior that the Chair determines will disrupt the decorum and order during the committee hearing

PERMITTED are:

• Flash photography

• Recording devices

BEFORE ENTERING A HEARING ROOM PLEASE:

• Remove hats

• Turn off cell phones and silence all electronic devices
