How to comment on a bill
You’re welcome to share your opinion on bills we’re considering. Learn how to send comments about bills to your legislators.
If you want to contact a legislator
To contact a legislator directly, send them an email instead of a bill comment. You can find your legislator’s email address in our list of all Representatives and Senators.
Creating and sending a comment on a bill
Follow the steps below to look up a bill and send your legislators a comment about it.
1. Find a bill
First, you’ll need to go to the page for the bill you want to comment on. The way to get to a bill’s page depends on whether you know the bill number or not.
If you know the bill number
Go to the bills page. Enter the bill number under “Search for a bill or initiative by number," then choose “Search.”
If you don't know the bill number
Go to the bills by topic page and use the “Subject” button to view a list of categories. Pick one, then choose “Search.” Choose a bill number listed under that category.
Accessing bill comments from legislative reports
You can also access a bill’s page from legislative reports. For example, on the bills by sponsor or bills in and out of committee pages, choose a bill number to go to that bill’s page.
2. Open the comment form
On the page for the bill, choose the “Comment on this bill” button to the right of the bill number.
3. Verify your district
In the “Verify your legislative district” section, type your:
- Street address

- Zip code
Once you’ve entered your address information, choose the “Verify district” button. Your district number will then appear below the button.
