Learn what live in-person and virtual classes are offered by the Legislative Information Center and how to sign up for them.

Classes offered

Understanding the legislative process 

From introduction to governor action & beyond, this class will teach you about the journey a bill takes to become law in Washington state.

Navigating the legislative website 

An introduction to the legislative website: we will review the homepage and learn how to find bill information, your district and legislators, legislator contact information, committee information, common ways to look up bills, and how to find current state laws and codes.  

Advanced legislative website navigation 

An advanced look at the legislative website: we will take a deeper dive away from the homepage and learn advanced ways to search for bills, detailed legislative reports, bill tracking account, find archived videos on tvw.org, find past versions of state laws and rules, and use the legislative search function to search the text of bills, state laws, state codes, and more.

How to sign up for a class

To sign up for a class email us your name, contact information, class(es) you want to take and dates you would like to attend. Include any relevant information such as the size of your group, any accommodations requests, and any questions you have. 

Additional classes information

All classes posted can be hybrid, you can sign up for any date either in-person or virtually.

In-person classes are limited to 16 people, each class is first-come first-serve, we do not keep a waiting list.

Each class is approx. 45-50 minutes with 10-15 minutes for questions at the end (60 min max).

Virtual classes hosted by the Legislative Information Center are done via Teams, if you would like to host on another platform and have us join, we can do that.

In-person classes are taught off-campus at the Legislative Support Services building in downtown Olympia; if driving you will need to find parking, nearby street parking is all metered. It is an approx. 10-15 minute walk from capitol campus.
