Commercial Driver's Licenses and Medical Certifications Study

ESSB 6106, Sec 204(9) directs the Joint Transportation Committee to conduct a study designed to help increase the number of CDL holders in the state of Washington, by addressing issues surrounding medical certifications.  The study will assess and recommend methods for setting: (1) state medical standards for excepted interstate commercial driver's license holders and applicants, who are not required to obtain medical certification under federal law; and (2) medical waiver requirements for intrastate non-excepted commercial driver's license holders and applicants, which must be set in a manner consistent with the requirements of federal law.
